This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is full of 22, curious, optimistic, and empathetic six- and seven-year-old students. Identifying which students belong to me is an easy task. If you want to know which kids are a part of our room, look for the kids that are dancing, laughing, and being generally sassy.

We are a cohesive unit of learners with a common goal: learn and grow.

We are located in a tiny district with an even smaller student population. Our school serves a diverse group of English Language Learners and socioeconomically disadvantaged students. While the entirety of our district focuses on early literacy development, English language development, and mathematical skills, our classroom has a special emphasis on social-emotional learning and digital literacy. With my teaching counterpart, we develop meaningful and engaging lessons that teach our students social-emotional learning through the use of technology.

I appreciate each and every one​ of my students and I aspire to be as curious, optimistic, and empathetic.

My Project

I believe that my students deserve an opportunity to engage in 21st-century skills. Currently, my 22 students have access to 11 laptops that are bulky, outdated, and not very user-friendly. This is the first year in which many of my students have been exposed to technology in the classroom. Funding our DonorsChoose.org project will put tablets into my students' little hands and bring them into a 21st-century classroom.

Digital literacy will provide my students with the opportunity to develop their literacy skills, mathematical fluency, and social-emotional learning.

Our school provides students access to online, subscription-based resources that emphasize growth in the core content areas. Tablets provide interactive, engaging, and meaningful learning for all students. Students will use these tablets independently or in small collaborative groups. Though my project is only requesting 6 tablets, each student would have access daily access to the tablets during our rotating learning centers. I would like to introduce my students to the plethora of technological opportunities that are merely a tap away. By offering my students a user-friendly​ approach to technology, I believe the learning and growth taking place will be exponential.
