As a first grade teacher I believe that home-school connection/communication between teacher and parent is one of the most important tools in helping my students. Every child is unique in their own way. They are like little flower buds that blossom at their own speed. This is why I feel that Take Home Packs are essential to have as a learning tool that help teachers to reinforce, review, and challenge students with the help of their parents. Take home packs allow the parents to feel a part of their child's education. Many parents work and are not able to visit their child's classroom. These packs help them to participate and share in the responsibility of their child's learning. The packs increase family involvement while developing interest in reading, writing, and drawing to communicate their thoughts. The packs have many hands-on activities that allow the child to share what they are learning with their parent. For example: using the literacy packs students and parents help strengthen and reinforce areas in writing, comprehension, analyzing text, and different genres that are learned in the classroom. The literacy packs allow for the parent and child to value education and become a part of he responsibility of their child's education. By parent, teacher, and child working together, I know that every child will succeed. I LOVE being a teacher and building a child's self-esteem. I want them to know that I KNOW THEY CAN DO IT and I am PROUD of their effort! Each packet focuses on building literacy and enjoyment in reading. The packs begin with easy text and builds with the child readiness ability. I will be teaching at a K-1 school that has about 800 students. Because of Hurricane Katrina I lost everything and do not have the funds to purchase this item and many other items. I have been teaching for 11 years and lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. My home and school received 9 feet of water, therefore I was not able to save anything. Furthermore, my husband has lost his family's business of 40 years. So as you can see I am asking for your help because I know that these packs will be enjoyed and treasured by every one of my students. These packs will be a great way for my parents to communicate their child's strengths and weaknesses.
