Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My sixth grade students are extremely chatty. Sixth graders are at an age where their social life is what is most important to them. The beginning of the year was hard with them having to learn the routine of school after a year of learning on the computer. However, now they know my expectations and I hold them accountable. I love the classroom community we have built together.

My students are special because they are my kids.

The fact that they ended up in my class makes them special. We are in each others' lives for a reason. I see their good days and bad. They teach me and I help them.

My Project

We are well into the school year and so I know my students better now. They like to work together on activities, but that means sometimes they end up talking more than actually staying on task. These materials will help incentivize certain students to keep working on classwork even if they are near their friends.

I already have some options for when students finish their work early, but I need more materials that are appealing.

I need students to want to get their work done. I also would like to reward the students who always finish their work by allowing them the option to have some fun in the classroom.

My students are in a bit of an awkward stage where they are going through a lot of changes physically and mentally. I think that allowing the students an opportunity to play board games together can help all of them develop social emotional skills. Some might learn how to be a good sport. Others might learn to open up to classmates when they tend to keep to themselves. Everyone will benefit in some way and make positive memories for their last year in elementary school.
