Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The children who walk through our school's doors each day are not just students; they are super readers, powerful writers and mathematicians in the making. I work in the Bronx area. It is a new school that doesn’t have much funding. The majority of our families live below the poverty line, are immigrants, with their own difficult situations and obstacles to over come. That, however, doesn’t change the fact that our new neighborhood school isn’t just a school. It’s a community where we help each other instill good citizen behaviors in our students and give them a love for learning.

Teachers give up time, stay late and provide parents with workshops in literacy to make reading fun for children.

We are always there for our families and students. We have high expectations for them. We want our students to learn in a fun, positive and exciting environment. We want our school to be a place where you want to be, not have to be. My students are eager to learn and succeed. I hope to keep that love for learning burning and create life long learners.

My Project

These leveled books will help push my students reading levels. My students this year have received their “Reading Super Powers” and have taken off like a rocket. They have used these reading super power or strategies and now have read all the leveled books in our classroom. We desperately need more leveled books so I, as a teacher, can keep pushing my students in reading. My goal is for all my students to meet a level C, D, or E reading level by June. But we cannot do it without your help! We need more books. With the books we receive, my students will be able to keep pushing and challenging themselves in reading.
