My Students

Do you remember the moment you fell in love with books? We certainly do, and we want every child in our class to experience this moment, regardless of their reading level.

Our class is a co-taught 1st grade class serving students with special needs and general education students.

We watch our students come alive as they are exposed to different genres and levels of books. Their love of learning is palpable. Our school is a turnaround school phasing out a failing school, and despite having students enter below grade level, we are determined to push every student to reach proficiency by the end of the year.

My Project

By having access to a listening center and read along books, students will not only develop a lifelong love of reading, but will additionally be able to develop necessary early literacy skills, including: concepts of print, sight words, and more developed comprehension skills. Having a listening station will allow us to better differentiate and meet the needs of each child as we work to both catch students up and push them forward.

Developing a strong foundation for literacy in the early grades is imperative to the success of students throughout their entire educational career.

We feel that this listening center will be an important factor in their reading growth this year.
