Nous Voulons Apprendre le Français! (We want to learn French!) I am a French Teacher in a high school that serves wonderful, ambitious kids from a high-need community. I teach levels I,II, and III grades 9-12 (mixed grouping, including students with special needs ). I am writing this proposal because we need a little bit of your help.
I have a group of eager young language learners but our school's budget has recently been cut. Teachers used to receive a stipend for basic school supplies and classroom materials but as of this year we no longer will. Finding appropriate materials in French is challenging enough and can sometimes be pricey due to the shipping costs.
The "Chalk and talk" lecture is ineffective and boring so I need as many French materials (i.e. French magazine and newspaper subscriptions, flash cards, music, DVDs, games, readers) as possible to keep these students motivated. I have found two readers to start with and will need a class set. Also, www.teachersdiscovery.com has many useful items (including French Monopoly) but they are not registered with Donors Choose. Anything that you can do or donate towards our needs will be greatly appreciated.
Your donation will help keep my students motivated and passionate about learning a new language. Seeing their faces after they have just completed their first chapter of a book in FRENCH boosts their self-esteem greatly and helps them to realize that they can do anything if they just put their minds to it. Please be a part of their journey towards language proficiency. The world needs competent and well-rounded individuals out there to run it.
