Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach in a Title I school located in a low socioeconomic area of Orlando, Florida. 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These kids are considered "high risk" because of the obstacles they face every single day. Statistically, students growing up in poverty are more likely to give up or become passive and uninterested in school. This giving-up process is known as "learned helplessness”. It's not genetic; it's an adaptive response to life conditions. Sadly, it frequently takes hold as early as Kindergarten.

The majority of my students are English Language Learners.

Many are coming to this country after having traumatic experiences in their home country and some are living with family members other than their parents. My goal is to be a champion for these kids and help them see all of their potential. I want my students to develop a passion for learning! You will be a huge part of their success by helping me fund this project, and I know my students will be forever grateful.

My Project

The materials I have chosen for this project will make a difference in the lives of my students by giving them visual representation and hands-on practice of the English Language. The activities are fun, colorful and will feel more like play to my students. As they work with these materials, they will develop the speaking, reading, listening and fluency skills they need for success. I am excited to work along side of them and watch while they increase their knowledge and confidence. Your investment in my students is an investment in the future of this country. Thank you for considering to help us!!
