This quote perfectly sums up my teaching philosophy: "It's not just about creativity. It's about the person you're becoming while creating". I make it my mission every year to raise my students' artistic confidence, grow their skills, and teach them to enjoy the art-making process.
My students are an extremely motivated and kind group of art students.
For example, many of my students are eager to become a member of The National Art Honor Society where our goal is to participate in community service projects in the arts. With each and every project my students do to help the school and surrounding community, I am so incredibly impressed with how committed and enthusiastic they are.
My Project
At the beginning of the year in Art 1 when I show students how they can use a reference photo to improve the quality of their artwork, many are often amazed at what they can do. It is such a tremendous joy to see a student proud of something he or she made in my class!
Since many do not have computers, cameras and/or printers, having a tablet in the classroom would allow students to take their own photos and make adjustments (change color, contrast, cropping, etc.). Additionally, they could look up reference photos on the web, use drawing apps and more.
Our first Donors Choose project was for an Apple tablet and a printer. So many of the students were excited about the idea that we could have a classroom tablet, that we are now going to try for a second one. In a class of 30, an additional tablet would be very helpful.
I am a firm believer in "Artistic Confidence" - if students are confident in their process and in their artwork, their future artworks will come out significantly better.
This donation would help my students to improve their skills and create artworks they are proud of. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student proud of his or her artwork!
