My students need 25 copies of "It's Called Dyslexia", a class set of beginning and intermediate reading trackers, 25 electronic spell checkers and 10 addition magnetic white boards.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cox's classroom raised $1,063
This project is fully funded
My class consists of military dependents, 55% of whose parents are in Iraq or Afghanistan. They are a part of a campus that has a 80+% poverty and receive free or reduced lunch. These students come from diverse backgrounds and different areas of the world.
My students struggle with connecting concepts to the real world and struggle even more so because of their challenges with dyslexia. Hopefully with your support I can help broaden their understanding by providing authentic and meaningful learning experiences with the materials I have requested.
The book "It is Called Dyslexia" addresses students' feelings about dyslexia. It will help give them hope by showing that through hard work it will get easier to read and write. They will understand that they are not alone. The reading trackers and wipe boards will help the students track while they are reading. They will be able to work on spelling rules and concepts on their own white boards. The electronic spell checkers are being requested to help alleviate some of their anxiety when it comes to spelling words while they are writing.
Through your generous donations, you will help make it possible for my students to see that dyslexia is not a "disability" but a unique quality that makes them even more special then they already are.
