My Students

Research from the National Institutes of Health indicates that 1 in 5 children struggle with reading despite having average to superior intelligence. That means that in every classroom in the United States there are between 2-4 children who need help with reading, writing and/or spelling.

I'm excited to say that I just accepted a new position as a Coordinated Early Intervening Services Specialist in my district.

I will serve students grades K through 12 identified with Dyslexia and Specific Learning Disabilities in reading . My role will be to determine how to implement appropriate methods to screen, identify, and remediate students most at risk for failure and provide interventions, ongoing evaluation and progress monitoring.

My Project

In this project I am asking for a variety of Wilson Reading resources. As a recognized leader in multisensory, structured language programs, Wilson brings more than a decade of systematic and explicit instruction to the K-12 classroom. Wilson provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program and makes learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. The Wilson Fluency Kit contains student readers, word lists and progress charts that allows students to read and record their individual progress. The Just Words and Wilson Level 2 and 3 Manuals contain extensive student resources like word, phrase and sentence worksheets that will be copied and used with their student kit. Each manual comes with interactive white board resources which allow students to use technology to practice skills introduced in their daily lessons. The classroom posters will provide students with visual reinforcers.

A new Carnegie Mellon brain imaging study of students with dyslexia shows that the brain can permanently rewire itself and overcome reading deficits, if students are given 100 hours of intensive remedial instruction.
