Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a 4th-grade teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools system.

My students come from broken homes, foster homes, and low poverty areas.

Many are faced with challenges that I've never dreamed of. 100% of my school is free lunch, and all students also receive breakfast for free. Most of my students come from Spanish speaking homes. Many of their parents do not speak English at all. My students are the ones teaching their parents English.

Starting this upcoming year virtually is going to be the most challenging for them yet, and for me, despite being in my 15th year. My students thrive for learning and show me their S.W.A.G. --Success, Willpower, Attitude, Goals--daily. They take pride in their success and their learning each and every day, no matter how hard life is outside of my classroom.

My Project

Our school district will be virtual for at least the first two months of the school year. My students face enough challenges with attending school and their learning environment and now with virtual learning, we have even more challenges. This Teachers Pay Teachers gift will allow me to find the most engaging lessons I can for my students so they can complete their work independently at home. I can find many differentiated lessons as well which I can tailor to their academic levels.

The anchor chart paper, markers, and other supplies will help me to provide them with quick and colorful visuals during our synchronized learning and in our small group meets.

They can also refer back to these resources during their synchronized learning as well.

I want to make this transition to virtual learning as smooth as possible for my students and their families.
