This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Emerging from the digital haze of remote learning and virtual science during the COVID-19 pandemic schooling, my 9th grade Earth Science students in NYC's Lower East Side have been extremely engaged; consistently exhibiting an eagerness to participate in hands-on learning opportunities that I have not seen before. However, topics like erosion and deposition are often difficult to bring to life in our urban setting. Some students can't even truly visualize how a stream moves, having had few chances to visit one.

This classroom stream table will give my students the opportunity to examine one of the most important Earth processes- the power of water to shape the Earth.

There is no substitute for actually seeing water run over land, watching its transformative power. We will use this stream table to carry out demonstrations and experiments where students generate and answer questions such as, "How does water shape land?", "What would happen if we turned up the stream's velocity?" "What factors increase a stream's velocity?"

Help me grow my students' already brimming curiosity about the natural world by funding this project. Your donation will give us the opportunity to design and carry out lab investigations on how water shapes the Earth.
