This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Second graders are at a critical stage of development where their cognitive, physical, and emotional growth are deeply intertwined. Research consistently demonstrates that incorporating movement into the learning process can enhance focus, memory retention, and overall academic performance. By providing mobility learning stations, we aim to:

1.

Enhance Cognitive Engagement: Physical activity stimulates brain function, helping students to better absorb and process information.

2. Promote Physical Health: Encouraging light exercise during learning contributes to healthier habits and reduces sedentary behavior.

3. Support Diverse Learning Needs: Mobility learning stations accommodate students who benefit from kinetic engagement, such as those with ADHD or other learning differences.

Proposed Implementation

With the funding, we will establish two mobility learning stations in our 2nd-grade classroom:

• Stationary Bike: Students can pedal while reading, writing, or working on tablet-based assignments. This setup combines physical activity with academic tasks in a seamless manner.

• Walking Machine: A treadmill-like device that allows students to walk slowly while participating in guided lessons, listening to audiobooks, or practicing math facts.

Each station will be integrated into the classroom’s daily schedule, allowing students to rotate through them during designated times. This ensures equitable access and maximizes the benefits across the entire class.

The introduction of mobility learning stations is expected to:

1. Increase Focus and Productivity: Movement helps regulate energy levels, enabling students to stay engaged for longer periods.

2. Improve Academic Outcomes: Studies show that active learning environments can boost test scores and enhance comprehension.

3. Develop Lifelong Habits: By blending physical activity with learning, we instill the importance of balancing mental and physical health from an early age.

4. Foster Inclusivity: These tools support differentiated instruction, meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
