This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Last year, I was blessed by having a donor donate everything to hatch chicks in my TK classroom. My little science activity turned into an entire school activity. The joy my students had watching chicks hatch became something all the classes wanted to come through our room to see. It was such an amazing experience that my students talk about still today.

This year, we want to try hatching ducklings.

Ducklings need a few different supplies than chicks do, and this project contains those materials. Ducklings will need more fresh bedding than chicks. Ducklings eat a lot, and we need to make sure we have the proper duckling food for them. Last year, we learned that our chicks grew very quickly. We need a hutch to house the ducks as they get a little bit bigger. After the ducks have reached the size to go outdoors, our wonderful instructional aide is going to take them to her farm to finish raising them. We always make sure our birds are well taken care of.

The materials in the project will make a difference in our little TK students' lives. It will be a learning experience that they carry with them forever. Not only do they get to learn about the lifecycle of ducks, they get to experience it in real life.
