This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an exceptional 7-12 grade public charter school. Our students come to us from all walks of life: free and reduced-priced lunch, English language learners, special education needs, and gifted student population.

Virtual learning has been a challenge for me and my students.

Managing students as they struggle to maneuver through several learning platforms and Zoom seems to take instructional time away from my students. My students also benefit from instant access to email while we are on live Zoom sessions.

Although my students have been learning virtually since the spring, it hasn't become easier or intuitive for all of them. As schools require more "rigor" and "normalcy" in instruction, some of my students continue to face connection issues. Student needs vary depending on their internet access, wi-fi speed, and the device they are using. This, coupled with the actual academic curriculum, makes learning a challenge for most students.

My Project

As my students and I continue to navigate and troubleshoot through the Virtual Learning World, my laptop screen seems to become smaller and smaller, as I share multiple resources via Zoom.

A Dual Screen Monitor setup will allow me to share and toggle between multiple tabs and programs during the valuable and limited Zoom meetings time students and I share.

This seems to be the answer to our dilemma.

It probably was not the best time to begin a brand new Engineering and Computer Science, Career Technical Program (CTE), but, it is what it is. So here I am at home, trying to demonstrate hands-on learning projects by making robots, skimmers, wooden puzzle cubes, and more. Our CTE curriculum, Project Lead The Way, is rich in collaborative and inquiry-based projects. I'm often working on 3 to 5 tabs open per course in addition to monitoring my email to assist students who are facing technical and connectivity issues.

The dual monitors, connected to my laptop, will help me present materials in a more organized and efficient manner, enabling me to have several tabs open and visible at the same time. This will make my Zoom meeting times more efficient and my synchronous meeting time with my students more productive.
