Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class has a steady hum of activity. I want my students to feel so caught up in learning that they are not even aware that learning is going on. To reach my diverse learners I draw upon strategies that promote active engagement so that all my students can participate to their fullest potential.

My students love learning, and why wouldn't they?

It's contagious! This year my students will be in a dual language program where all students will be learning English and Spanish. The majority of my students will be English language learners and I will have some students who only speak English. As a school, we are 86% economically disadvantaged and most receive free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

In order to set high goals and expectations for my kindergartners, I will need access to high quality nonfiction materials. These magazines are developmentally appropriate and will give my students practice with simple, predictable informational texts that support concepts of print, sight words, phonics, and vocabulary. The Science Spin will also help me as the teacher make STEM connections, promoting learning and possibly careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

I know that my students will love these resources.

At this age they are sponges waiting to soak up all the exciting and interesting ideas and concepts in their world. My students love coming to school because they know it is a safe, welcoming, and fun place to learn. These early childhood experiences will help build a strong foundation for their future academic careers.
