This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are avid readers from the South Bronx. Growing up in the same neighborhood, I knew my only escape was through books. My students seek high-interest books to continue to evolve their love of reading. They find excitement when they dive into a chapter book that they're able to read. Every day they enter the classroom ready to search for their new adventure across the pages.

These fourth graders yearn to find books that are as diverse as they are.

They request books that have characters that are as intriguing and can easily become a friend.

My Project

My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom like to read about superheroes and villains. My classroom library doesn't have a large collection of books, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.

Struggling readers will often pick up a comic book because the pictures and visuals are less intimidating than a typical book.

Many of my bilingual students enjoy reading books such as graphic novels but it is not in their language. Now I want to give the the joy of understanding what they read and to share with a non-bilingual student, what they enjoy about the books.
