I teach fourth grade in the Bronx. My fourth graders use dry erase markers and boards to practice critical word work, word games, and to practice math games and skills. To continue work with the dry erase boards we will need a new supply of dry erase markers. The kids LOVE using these materials but the markers are costly.
My students love to use dry erase markers for our morning routine practice which includes the Roman Numeral of the day (for all 186 days of the school year!) as well as our morning analogies. These activities start our day and wake up our minds. Students also use the markers to practice phonics activities and to work on word families and spelling.
Throughout the day, students use markers to solve the daily math problem. We also use these markers in to practice Math concepts such as place value (in both whole numbers and decimals), fractions and linear measurement. When students complete these activities on the slate, it's a snap to quickly evaluate their understanding of a range of concepts and practices and to identify students who may need further support or who are on the right track but need just a nudge for the idea to take hold.
This means we need a ready supply of dry erase markers. We would greatly appreciate a donation of a class supply dry erase markers in various colors. A good supply would carry us through the year and would be a hugely valuable resource that would be of great use on a daily basis.
