Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being able to quietly pull out a white board and start creating is a powerful tool. My students need a single device and strategy that lets them focus on one thing, and not the stresses of their individual lives.

My students are from a low economic area and are mostly English learners.

Every day many come to school with social issues I wouldn't expect an adult to have to handle. They have little academic resources outside of school. My school is an outstanding charter conversion and our goal is to take care of all students.

My Project

The use of white boards and dry erase markers is great for learners who need more than the worksheet type of lesson. My students need hands-on experiences. The power of solving your problem and then raising your white board to show off is as powerful as the student who projects their imagination through a focused medium he or she can hold in their hands. Using individual white boards can be a student's own palette. Be it math, language arts, spelling, or art, the chance to recreate over and over on a whiteboard is awesome...and quiet.

Because my class uses their white boards and markers everyday I want to make sure that they will not run out of the supplies necessary to allow them to explore number sentences and weekly spelling words, or 5 minute focused art.

The donations funding this request will allow my students to gain better self-esteem through trial and error while also allowing moments of creative self-expression.
