My Students
I am a teacher leader in a title 1 Tk-6th grade school. We have almost 500 students who attend our school. 85% of our students come from low-income families and 36% are English Language Learners. The last school year was challenging for many of our students because they weren't able to attend school in person, so it has been great being back on campus interacting with our students this year.
Our school believes in the motto, "Everyone for every child," Which means they are all of our kids.
We all have a part in their success at school as well as providing them with social, mental, and emotional support when needed.
My Project
The majority of the students in my school are from low-income homes and may not always have the resources they need. When they come to school many of them are hungry so we can provide them with breakfast, snacks, and lunch which we are thankful to do. We provide them with excellent instruction academically as well as intervention programs. We believe in catering to the whole child.
Though we can provide them with some resources we are very limited in what we can do.
Our students have needs that go beyond what we can provide them in the building. Parents are doing the best they can as they work with what they have.
We have had several students who have had bathroom challenges and were not always able to make it to the restroom. Unfortunately, we have not been able to provide everyone with clean underwear or contact their families. This is not healthy for the child emotionally or physically. When we can we will go to the nearest store to purchase underwear but it becomes costly to do that every time. We need to have a supply on demand so that we can quickly assist our students to remain in dignity. (No one wants to have soiled undergarments)
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
