My Students

There is more to rhythm than 4/4 time! My students will discover the complex exciting rhythms of the world as they study the music of many different countries.

My kids are from many different countries with many languages to be heard throughout the building.

There is also much enthusiasm for learning new and different music. I have found real talent at our school! We are a magnet school with many children being brought in by bus. We are also Pre-K to 8 and there are about 500 kids in total. It is like a family.

My Project

I'm requesting some good percussion instruments to inspire students to learn to listen and play together. They will also be able to learn to listen to complex rhythms and learn to "pick out" the patterns so that they can play them back. There is a lot of enthusiasm when students can play along with the professionals. This rhythm study will enable them to learn to hear, say, and write these rhythms. .

This will greatly aid students' learning in our Unit on World Music.

I used these types of instruments in my old school and found them to be extremely helpful. Due to budget cuts, however, it was not possible to order them for my new school. The broad impact is the enthusiasm for music that this rhythm work elicits.
