My students need Tubano Drums in order to boost their self-esteem and increase their creativity, improvisation, cooperation and participation.

My Students

Bono once said: "Music can change the world because it can change people". Music helps students' academic achievement and teamwork/cooperation skills. Furthermore, drumming has been shown to increase IQ scores, reduce stress, & help self-esteem. This is why I would like 4 pre-tuned tubano drums.

My students are in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

My students are energetic, creative, and talented. Every year, I teach my students about singing, vocal technique, and movement/choreography. I taught 3rd graders the recorder, and most have learned how to play some percussion instruments such as maracas, wood blocks, triangles etc. However, my students do not have a lot of drumming experience. Last year, I participated in many drum workshops at the state and district level and I very much wanted to share my expertize with my students.

My Project

Unfortunately, my school school does not have drums and there is no budget for music department. It would further increase their creativity as they would tackle increasingly more sophisticated rhythm patterns. Through the aid of drums I would teach them about musical forms, echoing, as well as call and response. I would also, teach them how to improvise and I will help their cooperation skills as I will facilitate participation in drum circles. I would also use "books with musical hooks". These are books that go along with drumming in order to enhance their reading skills. Also, I would encourage my students to write about their drumming experience, especially if they felt that the drumming activities helped their cooperation skills or boosted their self-esteem. Research shows that drumming leads to an improvement in IQ scores, stress relief, and cooperation. By purchasing these drums, my students will be able to have a productive and enlightening musical experience! Thank you for your help and support.

My students need 9 pretuned tubano drums, (1 drum per 3 students), but I would be happy to start the collection with four drums.

Studies have shown that 80% of students have never had an instrumental experience in their lifetime. With your help, more students will! My vision is to expand music education opportunities for all children of our school.
