This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a special education teacher at Ray Graham Training Center, a transition center for students with disabilities aged 18-22 in Chicago, Illinois. Our program provides our clients with vocational training and independent living skills, as well as community-based instruction. Our school has two campuses located in the South Loop and in Portage Park; I teach at the latter.

I am establishing an extracurricular drumming club at my campus, and I would like to provide my students with practice pads and sticks.

Doing so would enable them to work on basic techniques and rudiments both in and out of school, and would provide an outlet for artistic expression.

I have been playing drums since 2003 and have been in several bands during that time performing a variety of genres. I have been working in Chicago Public school since 2017 and this is my third year at Ray Graham.
