This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

World music helps students learn more about music and instruments of the world. Our school has a very limited amount of these instruments, and even putting them in a rotation limits the students' time allowed on each drum. With double classes meeting consistently, the number of students getting to play each class is extremely low. These drums will let them explore the basics of beat and rhythm, as well as give them a chance to improvise, learn about music around the world, and express themselves through drumming.

My goal is to get the students of our elementary school enough instruments so we can have more students able to play during each class.

Each class includes singing, listening, movement, reading and playing, and we would like to be able to incorporate these drums into each class during some sort of activity from Kindergarten all the way to Fifth grade. With drums of different sizes, the students can grow with the drums and the lessons can grow with them as well.

We are a very large school for Polk County with two music teachers, so there always two classes being taught at the same time. In order for each student to have time on these instruments, we need to have more of these kinds of drums so that there are enough for two classes even if they must rotate through the drums. With your help, these students will be able to learn another way to enjoy and perform music.
