Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a Title I school in the District of Columbia, and many of the children are from low-income households. Despite the fact that we do not always have access to materials traditionally found in classrooms, my students have helped me become more creative with found materials.

The children I serve are so creative and think of ideas for how to make things we need for our classroom.

We utilize the Tools of the Mind curriculum and will utilize materials such as toilet paper rolls and milk cartons to create props for our various themes, for example making egg rolls for our restaurant theme.

My Project

A classroom environment needs to be comfortable, organized, and inviting. Children should not be distracted by the environment; they should be able to focus on the lesson being conducted. Most importantly, a classroom should be safe for students; therefore, organization becomes key.

The classroom environment is important variable in creating an atmosphere of learning and support and can boost student's morale.

Investing in the student environment will reflect our belief in them. As our classroom is small, we have had to become creative with our organizations. These sturdy shelves will allow us to keep our materials out of the way and organized.
