This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I LOVE teaching fourth grade. This pivotal year in elementary education is both extremely challenging and rewarding. This year, I have the privilege of working with the most hardworking, creative, energetic and inquisitive students. They come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds, yet they each have an equal love for learning. They have a thirst for knowledge unparalleled to any class I have ever taught, and I want to give them the world. As third grade is a very structured year, there is less time in the strict curriculum to allow for the expenditure of my students' energy. My solution to this problem is to provide my students with flexible seating options to promote healthy movement during structured tasks.

Providing my children with flexible seating options will allow them to satisfy their jitters, fidgeting, anxiety and/or overall energy into healthy, non-disruptive movement that will promote improved attention during seated, structured tasks.

I believe that these alternative seating options will also make seated learning more fun for my students. These seating options will also afford my students with improved posture necessary for participating in seated tasks for longer periods of time.

My Project

The D.E.A.R. program in our class has created an inviting environment for readers. Students are able to drop everything and read! They are looking forward to reading and enjoy selecting a book from the classroom library.

With the addition of new novels, students will have a variety of books to choose from.

Having a variety helps to pique different students' interests. This will engage and encourage students to continue reading and learning. Ultimately, the books will shape them into life long readers.

Our read aloud time on our classroom carpet will also be more effective if each student has a personal copy to read from. Just imagine how much fun the students will have by reading together with their peers and teacher!
