Drone Obstacle Course

My Project

My students have access to hand-operated drones, thanks to donors like you, and they are ready to take them from toys to tools! By working to conquer an obstacle course, students will gain skills making precise movements with drones. Navigating an obstacle course is a more authentic way to expose students to the growing career opportunities in drone flying than using the drones simply for fun.

Students can use the obstacle course materials to plan, create, and test their own courses; practicing the engineering design process in an engaging way.

These courses will become expressions of students’ understanding by providing a project-based task for them to complete that connects to their learning in social studies, science, or math. With storytelling added to the course, you can see how they facilitate interdisciplinary learning.

Students will gain social emotional competence, practicing collaboration by working with partners to complete obstacles. 21st century skills encompass working with others; and when students have a high drive to complete a task like a drone obstacle course, they are motivated to work through disagreements and strategize with their partner to complete the task. The drone obstacle course will allow me to create a safe space for success and failure, tackling the challenges of teamwork proactively.
