My Students

My classroom is a technology engineering education lab. In my lab we operate our First Robotics team, which competes nationally every year with their original robotic designs.

Our school robotics team is a dynamic group of students who are focused on building and creating the very best they can every year.

The First Robotic competition is an international high school robotics challenge that has thousands of students participating every year. Our team is a newer team trying to understand all the ins and outs of creating a fully functional robot. Our robots have done everything from playing Frisbee to storming a castle. These challenges have forced my students to problem solve, thing creatively, seek expertise, and build teamwork. We are a growing team who are excited about what robotics can do for us.

My Project

Our First Robotics team needs a floor standing drill press. For the last few years we have been using corded drills for drilling out any metal we need. This has proven to be a challenge for the team. When using a hand drill it is difficult to be precise and robotics needs to be very precise. The completion of this project and the addition of a drill press to the team would allow the team to build better robots. The precision you can get from a stable, mounted machine is much greater than by hand. This means that the robot will be better built, have a greater design, and function more smoothly. It also means that the team will be able to move faster and not have to go back and fix hand made mistakes.

This project is going to make a huge difference for my students.

They will be able to produce better projects and their robot should come together quicker. With the adjustable table and variable speeds of the drill we will also be able to do some complex milling that was previously impossible. You partnering with my students is providing the next generation of engineers with the tools needed to succeed and ultimately win at the robotics competition.
