This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Pre-K through elementary school.

Our school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation.

Many of my students have special needs, are repeating a grade or are struggling academically to achieve grade level expectations. Many of my students are from single-parent homes and are homeless or reside in nearby public housing. They need essential resources to maximize learning opportunities to ensure they do their best work every day.

My Project

Being 'Dressed for Success' is more than just the latest buzzword. My students need clothing to wear to accommodate their growing bodies.

Not only are many of my students experiencing homelessness, or living in shelter, the socioeconomic struggles faced by my students' parents and families, often make it difficult purchasing new uniforms or clothing essentials to accommodate their growing bodies.

When my students are dressed appropriately for school, they are able to focus on academic success. With this in mind, they outgrow the uniforms that were purchased for them at the beginning of the school year. When this happens, my students no longer wear their uniforms and wear their "play clothes" to school. When students are not wearing their blue polo shirts, they can be subjected to bullying or teasing by their peers for not having on designer or name brand clothing. With your help, my students will have clean polo shirts and "Be a Buddy, Not a Bully" t-shirts to remind their peers to have and show respect for all! The grab and nutritious snacks will provide healthier options to replace to the salty, sugary, and fatty snacks.

With your help, my students will have an assortment of tops, assorted socks, hats, gloves and rain ponchos in various sizes to accommodate their growing bodies to help them do their best work while in school and focus on success. Because they grow so fast in one year, they often outgrow their uniforms and their parents have to choose between "school clothes" and "play clothes."
