Help Mrs. Watson

I teach third grade at a low income school where many students don't have what they need for school. These students often have a lot of reading difficulty. Unfortunately, this issue causes problems with many of the other objectives they must master throughout their lives.

Since reading seems to be very stressful for some of my learners, I’ve decided to try and make it fun! I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but not so much. Students that have struggled with this issue for so long have written reading off. They figure they won’t ever get it so why try. About a month ago we had a group come in and act out reading as a class. I was amazed how the kids absolutely loved it! So I figured I would try and do the same thing!

What I’ve decided to do was get all of the costumes that I could find and allow the students to recreate stories and write stories to act out too. Why not have it help not just reading, but writing as well? So here are the costumes that I would like to get to help my students become remarkable readers and writers: doctor, artist, astronaut, a career set, engineer, international children, chef, scientist, teacher, and airline pilot.
