Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are immigrants who have all recently arrived from over 40 different countries, speaking more than 20 different home languages! Many of them are eligible for free lunch and over 30% come to us with gaps of 2 or more years in their formal schooling, due to economic or social challenges in their home countries. Once in the United States, many students continue to work after school until late hours in order to support their families both here and back home. These children continue each and every arduous day with the single hope they've clung onto for years- that one day they'll be able to live the American dream.

Despite all challenges, I hope to bring our students to an intellectual and emotional space in which they can be free to challenge themselves (and each other!).

We become empowered learning about our differences and recognizing how we all are actually united in those very differences we possess.

My Project

Our students come from many different parts of the world. Many of them are from countries where success is a privilege given to the select few in society. We want to help our students to feel like success is attainable for anyone who works for it.

As our seniors prepare themselves to graduate and face the world, we want to provide them with their first professional portraits.

We have partnered with a great organization to provide volunteer photographers, but many of our students do not have professional outfits to wear to the photoshoots; please help us to provide them with these professional blazers.
