Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is the start of so may exciting adventures! For many students it's their first full day in school, and the first time they may play outside on the 'big' playground! It's such a fun year, and my student's are ready to seize every moment and learn in every way possible!

Their favorite way to learn is through hands on activities that allow them to grow as independent learners!

My students are fans of any activity that allows them to collaborate with friends, experiment, and problem-solve!

The majority of my students are English Language Learners, and about 85% receive free or reduced lunch. My students go above and beyond daily, and their desire to learn is inspiring.

My Project

Every single day in Kindergarten our students participate in 45 to 60 minutes of phonemic awareness & phonics lessons that align with the Science of Reading. We practice letter names, shapes, and sounds.

When it comes to letter shapes we write them in the air with our hands, on the floor with our feet, and then we FINALLY transfer the proper path of movement to white boards with dry erase markers.

We do all this with white boards that have been very loved, but are a little bit beat up with peeling edges and smudges that won't come up! These Kleen Slate white boards are awesome! They have attachable markers and erasers that would be a breeze for my sweet friends-no worry about materials getting lost! They are two sided: one side with lines to guide handwriting practice and the other side can be filled with whatever template fits our current topic. Phonics instruction is an enormous part of our day, and a large part of students future reading & writing success. Kleen Slate white boards would promote student engagement and independence during this very important part of our day.
