This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Would you have like to pitch to Babe Ruth? Are you amazed at the courage of Jackie Robinson? Do feel love basketball like Jordan or Kobe? Being able to read about these heroes isn't easy when you have no where to store these texts.

Our students are great kids with big dreams.

They attend an urban school of nearly 1000 students. Of our student population nearly 97% qualify for free or reduced lunch program. Our families speak many languages at home but clearly want to support their children with their school work. Our school community has been faced with budget cuts totally 17%. Our families welcome support both in school and at home.

My Project

It is tough when are students are not able to participate in Physical Education class. Injuries, cold and flu can sideline some students. We have been very fortunate to have been able to build a sports,fitness and nutrition library. These texts are about the sports heroes of many generations. There are many texts and games that highlight fitness and nutrition. It is important to have a portable way to have them accessible to the children for their use. Our Physical Education program must store our materials at the end of the day, and bring them out in the morning. It means that our students don't have to be spectators but can be fully involved in a book or fitness game. This teaching cart would make this possible.

Every child has a dream tucked away.

Books and games can tap that dream and help make it a reality. To dream about running a marathon or riding in the Tour de France can make Greta Weitz or Lance Armstrong your model. Maybe bowling is your game, and you find out that there are professional bowlers. It is a simple thing but will make a real difference for our students
