Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in grades 6th through 12th, in an inner city school. Our school is a "Title I School", where everyone is eligible for free lunch. This financial need is also in their homes, where the most basic of tools for their education is not available to them. However, this does not stop them from being assiduous and motivated students, driven to excel in school. Regardless of what limitations they may face, nothing stops my brave students from trying to do their best.

Due to a lack of resources in both school and in their homes, my students miss out on being able to be creative thinkers.

My students are always eager to learn new things so finding the educational resources for them to excel is very important. The goal of this project is to create a MakerSpace area in our library. This will allow for my students to become creative thinkers, active listeners, and problem solvers. A MakerSpace would let my student's creativity and collaboration run wild. They will use critical thinking skills and learn essential knowledge while working in a stress-free environment. They will collaborate and think outside of the box in order to expand their brains and creativity while integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).

The materials and supplies that I am requesting will help build my schools MakerSpace STEAM lab. Each teacher at my school will have access to this space on a weekly basis. Our library will be complete with Maker stations that will challenge our students to use the Engineering Design Process. Some of the stations planned for are; STEAM bins, 3D printing space, robotics center, and an arts and crafts space. In our MakerSpace, students will learn to take risks and try new things while showcasing their strengths!
