My Project

I am trying to create a peaceful environment where my students just happen to learn some art! I am asking for sketchbooks, drawing pencils and other supplies to support our curriculum. It is a chance for my students to practice their skills in class and on their own time!

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Our school is located in the middle of a section of Philadelphia that is experiencing increased social issues primarily related to drug abuse. Despite these many challenges, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning resources that they might not get otherwise.

My students are creative, clever, and spontaneous. They like to create, and they love to learn. Many of them are being raised in low income households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.

The sketchbooks will help my students discover new worlds through their art. I try my best to expose my students to as much art as I can in the short time they are with me. My mission is to help my students experience different materials, techniques, styles, and cultures. This will not be possible without your support. Your donation will help all of us greatly!
