My Students

"Creativity takes courage," said Henri Matisse. My students apply this quote in my classroom every day, with their eagerness to explore and try new materials and projects within the art classroom.

My students come from different areas of the Bronx and face a variety of challenges.

Despite the daily challenges they face, they are eager and enthusiastic to finally be given a classroom environment that will allow them to have a creative outlet. This art program is a chance for my students to find their own solutions and their individual artistic voices. My goal is to create an atmosphere within which students are challenged and inspired by creativity. Through art students have the ability to enjoy freedom of expression and to demonstrate their capability, vision, and intelligence. Art provides the opportunity for children to explore their imagination, granted they are given the right setting to do so.

My Project

In order to guide students toward a purposeful art education, it is important that they are given the opportunities to experience all types of media. The charcoal white pencils, vine charcoal, and manikin's, will allow students to participate in a fashion drawing project. The model magic, wooden blocks, plastalina, and air hardening clay will allow students to participate in various sculpture projects inspired by different cultures and artists. Students will be given opportunities to expand their knowledge, by working and experimenting with new and different materials.

Overall, these resources will give students new opportunities within school.

They will allow students to further their overall education and help foster skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving.
