My Students

I am a special education teacher in a Title I, self-contained elementary school located in New York City. I currently teach a Kindergarten - 1st grade class made up of students diagnosed with ED, autism spectrum disorder and other various learning disabilities. Students in my classroom have poor fine and gross motor skills, limited language and difficulty with social interactions.

My students are visual and kinesthetic learners, and require hands-on materials to aid them in reaching their individual goals via our remote classroom.

By varying the approaches to learning based on each student’s needs, there is greater opportunity for every student to learn and grow.

My Project

Incorporating a dramatic play area into our classroom will help me to teach and promote expressive language and enhance child development. Play helps children develop skills that are important for learning. Different types of play help to develop different skills.

Dramatic play engages virtually every part of a child's developing brain, helping hone a variety of crucial skills including creativity, brings out a child's imagination, coordination, communication, focus and social skills.

A dramatic play center will allow me to create an environment for enhancing imagination and learning within my classroom. Kindergarten is a crucial time to help students explore their curiosity and promote growth. It is my job an an educator keep learning exciting and to inspire and create lifelong learners!
