This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are passionate artists and select one of six majors (Dance, Drama, Technical Theatre, Visual Arts, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music) and study that major every day for four years while also taking a full academic schedule of core content classes. The Fall Play and Spring Musical always bring the whole school together. Students design, direct and choreograph the productions. As you can see from our photo of IN THE HEIGHTS--production values are high in our state of-the-art auditorium.

In normal years, student performers are often in school from 8am to 8pm as all productions rehearse after school.

But this year, no after school activities will be allowed at least through December. We want the students to be able to experience top notch production values even while creating their work virtually.

My students are hard-working, outspoken, passionate and wildy talented. Many come from financially challenged backgrounds and have to juggle child care and jobs while also maintaining rehearsals and GPAs. Please help them have a positive virtual experience in a year when all things will be different than what they expected. "Oh brave new world!"

My Project

We are an audition arts school in the Bronx that allows every students to select an arts major (Visual Arts, Drama, Technical Theatre, Dance, Instrumental Music or Vocal Music) and study that major for at least an hour every day for their entire 4 years of High School.

We usually put on two large productions per year in our auditorium but because of the need to create our drama productions virtually this year, we need to provide our drama majors with portable green screens so that when they film their performances at home, our student designers can swap in backdrops to set the environment.

Three portable green screens will allow three students per day to film and eventually we will have all of the footage that we need and be able to easily insert virtual backgrounds.

In addition we would like to be able to send students home with phone tripods as needed so that they can set up their phones for easy filming at whatever angle they need.
