This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Putting on "The Wizard of Oz", one of America's most loved stories, can be the experience of a lifetime. Help us make it happen by providing costumes for our production!

Our middle school drama/speech department serves kids grades 6 - 8.

Our Title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our students struggle at times to succeed, they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment. We have an after-school drama club program where students can participate in 2 full-length plays, improv, speech team and Thespian society. Students of all ability levels and learning types play a role in the creative process. This past year, over 90 students participated in our program. We try to find a place in our theatre for any child interested in the performing arts. Our students act, sing and dance on the stage. They learn technical skills backstage as well. Students are responsible for just about every aspect of the creative process; sound, set, props, costumes, makeup, and lights are all designed and executed by the theater students.

My Project

This year, we dare to tackle a much-loved musical, "The Wizard of Oz." This play offers many opportunities for our students. It has a huge cast, flexible casting, and limitless chances to be creative. Unfortunately, our budget is very limited. We have some materials we can adapt for our play, but we are very short on costumes. We want to include as many students as possible. The more costumes we can get, the more people that can be cast in our play.

If we had costumes for the flying monkeys and the winkies, we could cast more students for those scene.

The more kids acting on the stage, the better the production will be! We also need a great looking Wicked Witch costume. Your donation can make it possible for our kids to be a part of a classic show that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
