Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten in a Title I, Alabama Reading Initiative School. My school consists of 74% free and reduced lunch and where 42 % of its students come from ethnic backgrounds. My students love to hear me read stories to them and then retell them to each other or visitors that may enter our classroom. Sometimes I overhear or oversee them acting out stories to each other or pretending to be characters in a story I have recently read. I would love to provide my students with story props they could actually hold and see so the story can be made "real". Storytelling is an essential part of kindergarten and reading readiness. Children have wonderful imaginations and could really do wonderful things if material could be provided. That is where I need your help. I would love to create a drama center in my classroom that would allow my students to enhance learning and their imagination. To create this center, I need a flannel board and flannel board storytelling kits that are available through Lakeshore Learning. I can just see my students using these props to properly retell stories they love! I am asking for your help to provide a meaningful and wonderful kindergarten experience through quality literature and storytelling. I would love to have the storytelling easel and six different storytelling kits from Lakeshore Learning for my students to enjoy. I hope this will give my students a life long love for reading and books!
