Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Lunar New Year is the biggest festival for Chinese people and many other people with other Asian heritage. The most fun way to celebrate Lunar New Year is to have the children do a lion dance (popular in Chinese culture). As for art and craft, we will get creative by making paper lanterns and dragons for our classroom activities. Our ESL students classroom are filled with many different cultures and languages. We are ready to learn more and celebrate as well.

Explore a world of diversity and cultural richness with the best Asian Americans traditional games.

Whether students are familiar with the Lunar New Year or not, we can use the holiday as an opportunity to build their vocabulary. Then students build a word wall or visual dictionary to learn about other Asian cultures. They will engage in one of the Chinese invented games which is dominoes. My students will use dominoes to make patterns, solve basic math problems, using the ten frame.

Finally, students will eat clementines, as a simple, healthy, and popular snack for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations. Many will try dumplings and fortune cookies while receiving red envelopes for GOOD LUCK!

These activities will help foster cultural appreciation, create connections among our students, and provide meaningful hands-on learning experiences.
