Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our elementary school, the library is a center of literacy and learning for roughly 500 students in grades PreK-5. We strive to create an environment where all students have access to varied, interesting, and relevant texts at their level.

Right now, our library collection is severely lacking in transitional chapter books for newly independent readers.

Transitional chapter books are specially written to engage students who are moving beyond easy readers and picture books for the first time. They provide students with the sense of accomplishment that comes from completing longer books through a combination of short chapters, simple vocabulary, and visual supports. They are an important stepping stone in the reading process, but we have very few to offer our young readers.

If funded, this project will allow our library to purchase a hardcover set of Dragon Masters books. These books have been requested by multiple students (both boys and girls) and will fill an important niche in our library collection.
