My Students
Each morning we say, "I am somebody, I am somebody when I came, I will be a better somebody when I leave. I have things to do, I have places to go.' Based On Dr. Seuss' life, I want to teach our students that they can move the mountain and make learning magic.
The VMA is a boys' school with kindergarten through eighth grades that come from low-income homes and single parents.
Our vision is to lead boys toward a realization of their innate strong characters – boys who are family orientated, community conscious, and globally aware. Through a firm foundation of intellectual and academic diligence, VMA students are equipped to meet and exceed the expectations of a challenging high school environment and are eager and determined to pursue a college education. Through the rigorous modeling experience of the Visible Men Success Curriculum, VMA students gain vast exposure to future personal and career possibilities. These combine to cultivate within VMA students, an unyielding sense of control over their futures – a critical orientation for lifelong success, personal fulfillment, and societal contribution.
My Project
During Dr. Seuss' Birthday Bash Party Week, we will start celebrating by watching a video clip showing the life of Dr. Seuss. The kindergarten through second grade will have to create a skit from a Dr. Seuss story for ten minutes of each class. On Wednesday, the teachers will discuss how Dr. Seuss never give up on his dreams. The kindergarten through second grade levels will start working on making posters about a different theme of a Dr. Seuss book. On Thursday, the student body will make Dr. Seuss hats and the younger grades will have to perform their Dr. Seuss skits. We will judge the poster for grade level. On Friday, the students will eat green eggs and ham for school breakfast. The Cat in the Hat will visit the younger grade levels and read the students a story in the classroom. Lastly, the kindergarten through second grade will have the birthday bash parade to end the celebration. Students will learn reading and understand works of literature. Students will learn to illustrate through performing.
These donations of games, books, tote bags and hats, will help students improve their reading skills and learn character education to help them make better choices in school and in life.
I want to teach our boys that reading does not have to be boring, but can be exciting if a little magic is brought into it to make it come alive.
