This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Oh the things you can think when you think about Seuss!" Help us bring the world of Dr. Seuss to the stage by providing us with costume pieces for our play "Seussical."

I teach middle school drama / speech grades 6 - 8.

Our Title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our theater, students struggle at times to succeed. They are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment. We have an after-school drama club program where students can participate in two full-length plays, improv, speech team and Thespian society. Students of all ability levels and learning types play a role in the creative process. This past year, over 110 students participated in our program throughout the year. We try to find a place in our theatre for any child interested in the performing arts. Our students act, sing and dance on the stage. They learn technical skills backstage as well.

My Project

This year, we are tackling the much loved, "Seussical," a musical based on the stories of Dr. Seuss. As we will have anywhere from 40 - 60 students acting on stage. It is sometimes difficult to provide enough costumes for all of the students. We have five actors who play birds in the play. We are requesting five chiffon tails to accent their outfits. The female hero, Gertrude, also needs a dress. These pieces will supplement the costumes that we make, borrow, and already have.

Your donation will make it possible for our bird girls to have colorful costumes to help develop their characters.

Together, we can bring the amazing stories of Dr. Seuss to life for our audiences.
