Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Having students express themselves through different outlets is a way to communicate with them. Sometimes we fail to understand our students behaviors and attitudes because we aren't sure of what they are trying to say.

For International Dot Day, we are going to read the story "The Dot" school-wide to help our students unlock their creativity and confidence!

For this project, I am requesting copies of the story "The Dot". These books will be read to students through out the school building to help recognize International Dot Day as well as to help our students unlock their gifts and talents to build confidence. After reading the book, students will be given a dot to express a thought of encouragement to help boost other's confidence. A wall display will be created in the hall so that students can see the encouraging words. The students will also use the dot markers to create an original art piece that they make out of dots. For example, students could outline their hand and fill it in with dots, or draw a heart to fill in with dots.

This project will show students that art is art, and everyone can create in their own way. The outcome of this project is to help students feel encouraged and to build confidence.
