My Students

I am the STEM/computer science teacher in a school of almost 800 students, ages 5 through 11 years. Our students are largely from immigrant families, who have come primarily from countries in the Caribbean and Central America.

We have English Language Learners, students receiving special education and related services, as well as general education and enrichment classes.

Our school proudly participates in the CS4All SEPjr program. As such, we would like to expand our computer science program to include more sophisticated robots for our younger students. With more age-appropriate and hands-on technology equipment and experiences for our K-2 population, their math and problem-solving skills will soar!

My Project

I am requesting eight Dot programmable robots for my kindergarten through second-grade students. I would like them to be able to use our tablets to write code to interact with these robots.

So far, my students have been using the tablets to code in Scratch, to create online animations.

We would like to use these Dot robots to take our coding to the next level.

Students will be able to collaborate, as they program the robots to change light colors, talk, and interact with the kids.

I know how excited my students would be to have the opportunity to code their own robots!
