My Project

I teach special education resource in Puyallup, Washington. My students are some of the most amazing kids I have ever met. They work hard, they are kind, and they are fun. They love being in resource because I provide a safe, positive, and comfortable place to learn for all. Currently, there is a shortage of furniture in our school district, and in my resource room, I do not have a place where I can pull students for small-group instruction. A U-shaped table would allow me to work with up to 8 students at a time and provide small groups with the instruction and support they need to be successful.

I also have many students who are struggling to find anything positive about reading.

I would like to incorporate more genres of books into my classroom, including comic books and picture books. The resource room provides a safe place for students to read what interests them, without judgment from peers, whether it is Dr. Seuss or a novel, a comic book, or a National Geographic magazine. A bookshelf to display these books would help students see and browse different covers, titles, and authors. The more they explore different types of books, the more they may realize that reading can be fun, interesting, and enjoyable!

A table and bookshelf would allow me to not only continue to provide a safe, positive space for my students to learn but would also elevate the way I can address their special needs. My students deserve to have the best specially designed instruction that I can offer, and I feel that providing a comfortable place for them to learn one-on-one, read and explore different reading genres, and work collaboratively in small groups is key. Thank you for your consideration, it is truly appreciated.
