Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I joined WSHS in Newark NJ two years ago. My first year I was in shock to see kids walking 30 to 40 minutes to attend to school. My passion for teaching and to help others made me fall in love with my job. My first week was a challenge since every staff in the building multitasks to help kids in the school. Principal Cook and VP Long are doing a fantastic job. However, we need a lot of help. During the school year my program was invited to many different events and competitions.

We were invited to Skills USA event and my kids had to exchange ideas with high school kids from other schools.

It was heartbreaking to hear my kids in the bus talking to each other about the equipment other schools have and how nice would it be to have laptops with complete keyboards, 3D printer, Smartboard in great condition, jackets to participate in events of Skills USA, etc.

The students population from my high school are African American and Hispanics. The neighborhood has many of the challenges facing older city neighborhoods throughout New Jersey, including poverty, high crime, challenged schools, abandoned buildings

My Project

Provide jackets to my students from Advanced Manufacturing will motivate them on returning to

participate to other events on Skills USA.

Two years ago my students attended to an event on Passaic Technology High School from Skills USA without uniforms (red jacket), white shirt and a tie. The school does not have resources and my students come from low income families.

I don't want my students to be look down while they interact with other kids at events and competitions. I need my students to learn with confidence knowing that they have a community who can support them while they learn in class to be successful in STEM careers
