My Project

In the elementary school music setting, it is important that students have the opportunity to experience instruments in different families of the orchestra. In my music class, we have various percussion instruments and when students enter 5th grade they have the chance to play an instrument in the strings family. However, we do not have instruments from the woodwind family, and you can change that.

By giving my students recorder instruments, students can creatively express themselves, develop fine motor skills, and become more confident.

Students will learn to work together in small groups and collaborate to achieve a common goal. Each person in a student group will have a job that will contribute to the mastery of a song. The songs range from beginner to intermediate level.

Being that I work at a title I school, many of my students cannot afford to purchase recorder instruments for themselves. This would mean that many students would not develop skills or even realize they have the ability to learn this instrument. My students are hard workers and very creative. They need your support!
