Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
I want to start a Robotics & Problem Solving Station to inspire and challenge our students with various STEM activities. It's imperative for students to apply math and science skills through real, hands-on projects. Engaging in these robotics activities will help to develop problem solving skills through collaborative learning opportunities.
By using various Lego Education sets, robotics kits, and problem solving puzzles, they will be inspired to learn through STEM exploration.
These robotics activities will be utilized for differentiated math and inquiry science instruction to enhance spatial and analytical reasoning, while challenging the students' strategic thinking skills. They will be able to design, create, test, reflect and rebuild designs to make improvements. Students will use mathematical problem solving skills to develop logical thinking and practice rigorous problem solving. This will further enhance our STEM instruction by making connections with content and will provide collaborative learning by applying mathematics to problem solving in everyday life.
